Near the end of the earth, as the beach falls into the ocean, three children play a complex game. The rules are their own. They are deep in conversation with the gravity of a gathering of nations setting the bounds of their play. Then the ball starts flying and they are having the time of their lives. Later as they grow, they relinquish that control. Never again making rules of their own.
