
Above is Johannes Kepler’s rendering of the inner planets, first published in his Mysterium Cosmographicum of 1596. It was to illustrate his theory that the orbits were spherical shells, nested between the five Platonic solids. Not such a sound hypothesis, but makes for a lovely drawing, which is going to go on my back next to my current tattoo.
